Energy Diet

In Closing…

Yeah, and we’ve succeeded in coming to the end. It was fun at the beginning, a duty in the middle and a huge satisfaction at the end :-).

There were days I did not believe that we would find enough time to prepare posts in time. But with the effort of all the family, we did it. During this past 12 weeks, we found out that we already live very “normally” and we are not as spoiled as one would anticipate for the city family. We are well aware of seriousness of Earth pollution and what we can do to stop this trend. We try to pass this awareness to our children and hope that they’ll pass it to their children too.

We know we will continue with habits that we gained through this diet and, of course, all the habits that we already had before this diet. We will shop the same way as we shopped before (with the shopping list), we’ll ride bicycles as much as our climate lets us do it, we’ll take care of waste disposal and reduction as we did it before, and we’ll try to live with in harmony with nature even though we won’t make a small garden near the house and raise our own vegetables – but if I’m honest we really don’t need it as long as we have (grand)parents with big vegetable gardens :-).

So, in a nutshell, we did not have to change many things in our life during these past weeks, because we do our energy diet everyday anyway. Most of all, what we experienced during the diet was that we spoke a lot about it and we became aware of many things that we didn’t even notice before, even though we lived them. This really surprised us.

And we found out that in future we must just continue as we started and upgrade it with some additional improvements – maybe mostly changes at eating – more vegetables and less meat. I found out that women do this more easily than men :-). And during the diet we also decided that when something in our household breaks or malfunctions, we’ll replace it with better product, produced in environmentally friendly way. Also, we found out that we don’t need to replace anything until it’s broken or useless. With replacing things we just become bigger consumers, and we don’t influence the environment in positive way.

I reckon that we’d do this diet again anytime, but only if it wouldn’t be necessary to write about it. We could do it in photos, but not in writing again. And I believe that all my family agrees with this :-).

    Dear Mateja:
I really enjoyed reading ur post, it was clear and funny. I believe that you presented all of my thoughts, a beautiful journey you want to do for the rest of your life. Loved the picture, I wish I can do it here, but our weather is so bad, its good some times, but it definitely wont let us go bicycling when its really hot. Best regards Zupan family and good luck.
